Just rambling....

There was more than the odd curse word as I struggled through the tangles of branches to get to the trunks of the evergreen trees that separate the folk’s house from mine.  I’m clearing the lower branches from this row of evergreens.  I remember dad planting these trees well over 35 years ago when I was a mere lad.

At the time they were planted, I didn’t realize there was a back story.  Before I was born, there had been a row of evergreens that were quite impressive.  My dad felled those trees at the behest of my grandfather, although they were on my dad’s property.  This cleared the view for my grandfather of my dad’s place.  My dad’s young wife was none too impressed.  So, back to me being just a mere lad, my dad planted a row of trees to replace those that had been cut just before I was born.   As you might have guessed, this was at the behest of my mom.  Poor Pop sure was behested a bunch.

As those trees grew, I’d often see my grandfather watching the goings on next door (our house).

Today I’m struggling to clear the underbrush that grew over the years.  It’s grown quite thick and I’m thinking to myself that it’s about as stubborn as both my grandfather, and my mom both.  My dad is stubborn too, but that has been kept in check by all the goddamned behesting maybe.

I’m not going to cut the new row of trees. Though, I’m not sure a row trees of almost 40 years can be called new.  I’m cleaning them up to clear the way for easier mowing.  You will be able to see across the field easier.  Although, the only window at my folks place that faces mine is the bathroom window.  So if Pop wants to gaze over here to see what I’m up to, he’ll have to do it while standing in the tub.  And hell, I’ve already done all the really interesting stuff I’m going to do.
