The Bad News Bears......

It was fucking frigid out today and tonight.  So, what did I decide to do?  Well, I went to watch hockey of course.  I didn't go to a sports bar, or stay in the toasty confines of my wood-heated house. No.  I went to the rink.  My dad, my boy and myself traveled with my nephew to a game about an hour away.  My nephew was playing in a small hamlet called Copper Cliff.  And while the town is known for smelting copper, and nickel for that matter, I have yet to see a cliff anywhere near the town.  However, we did go to the rink and watch my nephew play.

Most arenas in Northern Ontario are pretty cold places.  Most have lobbies, where weary parents and spectators go to warm up between periods.  This rink had no such amenities. My dear old dad disappeared after the 2nd period.  I couldn't find him anywhere.  He reappeared for the start of the third.  I asked him where he went.  "I went to the shitter to warm up.  It's fucking freezing in here." My dear old pop never minces words.  Unless of course my mom is around.  Curse words are verboten around my dear mom.

The game itself was a fucking disaster. (It's OK. My mom isn't here.)  My nephew's team lost 8-0.  If Walter Matthau was coaching, and they were playing Little League baseball, it would all make sense.  This collections of sad sacks were decidedly much less funny.

Now it's been a long while since I've found young girls appealing.  There weren't many young girls hanging about at the rink tonight.  There were however, some attractive ladies bundled up in their down filled winter coats, scarves, hats, with locks of long hair spilling out.  Smiles, and rosie cheeks.  Sipping on coffee or tea.

I'm sure I could impress them with the wood stove........

Later
